Three Manchester
Essex Regional High School students were honored recently as part of the
annual Sixth District Congressional High School Art Competition and Show.
|
The event was co-sponsored by U.S. Rep. Seth
Moulton and the Montserrat College of Art. Honorees from each school were
awarded scholarship funds toward attendance at Montserrat’s Summer
Pre-College Program.
|
Clara Grant received the Best of School
Award for her work, "Daydreamer." Quinn Everett Brady
("Intrinsic Medication") and Alana Martinetti ("Metallic
Fish") received honorable mentions.
|
"It's important that we recognize the
talented artists who attend our high school," said Superintendent Pam
Beaudoin. "Clara, Quinn, and Alana all created wonderful work, and
we're happy to see Rep. Moulton recognize them."
|
For being named Best of School, Grant
received a $500 partial scholarship to the Montserrat summer program.
|
The Manchester Essex students were honored
March 18 during an event at Montserrat’s Hardie Building. They also
received a citation from Rep. Moulton, whose district includes Manchester
and Essex.
|
"This competition has showcased the
very best high school art work from public and private high
schools. Past Grand Prize winners from MERHS have had wonderful
life-changing experiences," Art teacher Tamera Burns said.
"It is always a pleasure to see and hear Rep. Moulton speak about the
importance of art in the world of politics and well beyond."
|
More than 40 students in Grades 10-12 were
recognized by Rep. Moulton's office as either overall winners, best in
school, or school honorable mentions.
|
The Congressional
Art Competition was created in 1982. It is sponsored by the House of
Representatives. It is intended to recognize artistic talent across the
nation. One student from each district has their artwork displayed in the
U.S. Capitol Building.
