Spaulding Education Fund has announced three new grants!

Spaulding Education Fund has announced three new grants awarded to teachers and students during the Fall 2024 grant cycle. SEF is an independent, non-profit organization providing support for initiatives that enhance the academic curriculum of the Manchester Essex Regional School District. Programs funded by the new grants include:

  • A “Shakespeare & Company” artists-in-residence performing arts workshop and a field trip to North Shore Music Theater to see “Macbeth” for students in grades 6, 7 and 8.

  • The Speech & Debate team, a high school club that recently expanded to include middle school students.

  • A drying rack for elementary school art students.

This year Spaulding Education Fund has funded more than $32,000 of educational initiatives at all grade levels across the district. “After a dormant period during the pandemic, Spaulding Education Fund has come roaring back, ensuring our students continue to have access to the most innovative and authentic learning experiences our community can offer,” said Maile Madigan, Grants Coordinator for Spaulding Education Fund. “When budgets are tight, Spaulding Education Fund can help give our teachers the resources they need to deliver outstanding educational opportunities.” Information about this year’s grants is available at spauldingeducationfund.org.

Unlike the Ed Funds in other Cape Ann school districts, Spaulding Education Fund has no endowment and relies on contributions from local businesses and members of the community. Its recent Night of Stars talent show was a huge success, featuring 32 acts and raising almost $25,000. Spaulding Education Fund also runs the popular “Golden Hornet” fundraiser each June, which allows families to recognize MERSD faculty and staff for their contributions throughout the school year.

Spaulding Education Fund’s Spring 2025 grant cycle opens January 6, 2025. To apply, MERSD faculty or students can send an email to grants@spauldingeducationfund.org. Grants are assessed on the following criteria: Innovation and Educational Value, Impact and Collaboration, and Replicability and Sustainability. Spring 2025 grant recipients will be announced in March.
