MERSD School Resource Officer!

MERSD is pleased to announce that Officer Andrea Locke has been appointed to the role of MERSD School Resource Officer (SRO).

As a result of strong collaboration between the towns of Essex and Manchester and the District, this position has been established to support students, faculty, and staff of MERSD.  The School Resource Officer (SRO) serves the Manchester Regional School District as a teacher, a counselor, a role model, and an advocate for students, families, faculty, and staff. The SRO is not the school disciplinarian, nor does she supplant any other staff function. The SRO brings full service, personalized support to members of our community.   Although the SRO will maintain an office in the Middle High School, she will also visit the Manchester Memorial School and Essex Elementary school on a regular basis to build relationships with our younger students.  With a full-time presence in the schools, she will be an easily recognized and approachable resource.

The work of the SRO is grounded by three pillars:
  • Education:  Collaborate with faculty and staff to foster and support student education in drug and alcohol abuse, domestic violence, personal safety, bullying, harassment and their related consequences.
  • Counseling: Support and mentor students, and collaborate with school personnel, by providing a trusting, relationship-based environment in which students are free to ask questions and seek help with problems related to school, home, and the community at large.
  • Security:  Support an ongoing and growing need to have an active and regularly reviewed safety and crisis management plan to ensure the physical and social-emotional well-being of students and staff.
Officer Locke has completed the National Association of School Resource Officers certification, and she has worked for the Manchester Police Department in various capacities since 2006 becoming a full-time officer in 2018.
