On October 21 at
6:30pm, Director of North Shore Advocacy Services Karla Murphy will present our
annual Parent Rights Workshop in the middle/high school library. This
presentation focuses on familiarizing parents with special education
regulations and supporting effective advocacy on behalf of children with
disabilities.
Karla Murphy is an
experienced presenter on parent rights whose twenty year career as an advocate
includes positions as Director of Advocacy for Northeast ARC and
member of the Citizens Advisory Board for the Department of Developmental
Services. This workshop is free
and open to all parents residing in Manchester and Essex. Please RSVP for

On Thursday, October
24 at 3:30, the District will offer the first of a series of meetings for
parents of English Language Learners. This meeting will be held in the
MERMS main office conference room.

On Monday, December 9
from 6:30-8pm, Reading Specialist and Orton Gillingham Fellow Kerri Schaub will
present a workshop for parents on reading instruction for children with reading
disabilities and dyslexia. This workshop will focus on components of a
comprehensive reading program, specialized teaching methods, and how parents
can support struggling readers through home-school partnerships. The
workshop will be held in the MERMS/MERHS library. To RSVP, e-mail Rosie
