Welcome Back to School!

I can’t believe the summer months have flown by, and we are opening school this week!

It has been a busy summer around the district, but it is never quite the same without the students and staff on campus.  Happily, life has been returning to the schools over the past few weeks; athletes arrived for pre-season, freshman and sixth graders attended orientation, and many students have visited to pick up schedules or to sneak a peek at their new schools or classrooms. Today, faculty and staff have returned to organize lessons, prepare their rooms, and attend trainings.

Throughout the summer, our twelve-month staff has been managing the traditional off-season activities of summer school, technology upgrades, and professional development.  One of the largest summer undertakings is cleaning and preparing the schools for the new year.  Many thanks go out to our amazing facilities and tech teams who were both hard at work during a very hot summer to make sure all is ready to go for opening day.

For the Leadership Team, hiring and onboarding new staff has been a big part of our summer work. I am pleased to introduce Sheila McAdams as a new member of this team.  She will be serving as the Interim Principal for Essex Elementary school.  Ms. McAdams brings high energy, intellect, a collaborative approach, and a proven track record as an instructional leader as well as a vision of excellence, student-centeredness, and continual improvement. Districtwide, we have thirty new faculty and support members joining our team this fall.  I have been incredibly impressed with the level of professionalism and student-centeredness that our new members have exhibited, and I am certain they will make our team strongerMeet the New Faculty & Staff

We have a lot of exciting work planned for the upcoming year, and I encourage you to get involved with the many opportunities available to volunteer and serve on committees. Later this week, I will be posting an update previewing what is on the agenda for the year ahead. If you have questions or suggestions, I invite you to contact me.  I value your input so that, together, we may continually work to improve the social, emotional, and academic experience of your children to make their school experience the best it can be.

Enjoy the final days of summer.

I look forward to seeing you and the students on Wednesday!
